We are thrilled to celebrate Dr. Annette S. Kim’s appointment as the Henry Clay Bryant Professor and Division Director of Diagnostic Genetics and Genomics at the University of Michigan. Her distinguished career and innovative contributions to pathology are exemplary.
Dr. Maria Westerhoff (U of Michigan) was elected as the The Rodger C. Haggitt Gastrointestinal Pathology Society (GIPS) president. Many accomplished pathologists and leaders in pathology had served this role at some point in their successful career and for sure, Dr. Westerhoff is one of them.
Stories of actual incidents ignite our hearts and demand attention. Incidents in my new novel portray a female pathologist promoted to department chair. She encounters powerful forces of indoctrinated prejudice and in medicine and exposes false assumptions about medical-legal justice. Pressures mount as she renders a tragic pathology diagnosis and lawyers become involved. Ultimately, the doctor presents a case to decontaminate the poisons in this world of unforgiveness (Copied from Dr. Apple's blog). FORGIVE TO LIVE at Amazon and at Smashwords eBooks
Who is Your Pathologist? Pathologists are unseen medical doctors commonly referred to as “the lab,” and sometimes known as “a doctor’s doctor” by their physician colleagues. Pathologists work behind the scenes, unbeknownst to the patient who receives their care but make critical decisions that lead to determining the treatment plan.
For the first time, this book documents the field of Pathology and how these doctors fit in the spectrum of our health care..
The trainee abstract award was awarded to Dr. Whayoung Lee (GI pathology fellow) at UC Irvine Medical Center.
The EuiHam Abstract Award was awarded to Dr. Ji-Eun Lee (PGY2 pathology resident) at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital. Dr. Ji-Eun Lee attended USCAP meeting in-person against all odds to present her work.
We are happy to share the news that Dr. Yeon Bi Han has been awarded the F. Stephen Vogel Award at USCAP 2022. This is an award that recognizes outstanding work by a resident or fellow published in Modern Pathology or Laboratory Investigation.
Dr. Han started her translational clinical study focusing on pulmonary pathology during residency. She investigated the clinical impact of the tumor spread through air spaces (STAS). Following previous studies, she is investigating the three-dimensional structure of STAS. In addition, she is working with mentor Dr. Chung to identify intra-tumoral heterogeneity of the tumor microenvironment using transcriptional spatial profiling techniques to understand tumor invasiveness in early lung adenocarcinoma and apply the pathological diagnosis of invasiveness.
We are happy to share the news that Dr. Won-Tak Choi has been selected for the Rodger C. Haggitt Gastrointestinal Pathology Society (GIPS) Jack Yardley Investigator Award. This is an award recognizing seminal contributions or a significant body of published work that advances the field of gastrointestinal pathology, given to one investigator yearly.
This is in recognition of his pioneering work in developing diagnostic and/or prognostic biomarkers for pre-invasive lesions in the gastrointestinal tract, with particular emphasis on dysplasia associated with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and Barrett’s esophagus. In a series of papers, Dr. Choi and his team defined and characterized previously unreported variants of dysplasia in IBD. His team also demonstrated the promise of DNA flow cytometry using paraffin-embedded tissue in the diagnosis and risk stratification of dysplasia in Barrett’s esophagus, IBD, and other parts of the gastrointestinal tract.
Hi friends,
Hope all is well during this pandemic time. I recently wrote a novel. This novel is about how a female pathology resident faces the pandemic as well as life's challenges in dealing with Asian American racial issues.
The book is now available at Amazon. Please consider a purchase and write a review.
I am donating all the $ to a food bank and wheelchairs to the world. Unless you purchase the book, you may not be able to write a review.
