We hope that everyone had a bright start of the New Year! We would like to inform you about the upcoming KOPANA spring seminar and KOPANA social/annual dinner during USCAP. Below, you will also find information about applying for the Trainee Abstract Award/EuiHam Abstract Award (due 2/15/24), Korean Society of Pathologists annual meeting and important member news about Dr. Maria Westerhoff!
1. KOPANA 22nd Annual Spring Seminar (virtual)
KOPANA will be holding the 22nd KOPANA Spring Seminar virtually in March 2024 (3/15-16 in the US, 3/16-17 Korea time). Please see below, for the detailed information. Registration link will be sent in a separate email. Please register in order to receive the Zoom information.

2. KOPANA Annual social gathering and dinner during USCAP 2024
We will be holding a social gathering Saturday evening 3/23/24 and annual dinner Sunday evening 3/24/24 during USCAP. More information to follow. The RSVP will be included in the same form as the registration for the Spring Seminar.

3. Trainee Abstract Award and EuiHam Abstract Award—DUE 2/15/24
We are actively soliciting USCAP abstracts by KOPANA/KSP members for Trainee Abstract Award ($200/trainee) and EuiHam Abstract Award ($750 annual travel award established in 2006 by the late Dr. Jae Y. Ro to help the trainees in need for attending USCAP). Please submit any USCAP abstracts that are accepted for presentation wherein KOPANA/KSP trainees are first authors to the Education Committee chairs, Soo-jin Cho and Eun-Young Karen Choi (Soo-jin.cho@ucsf.edu, ekchoi@med.umich.edu) by 2/15/2024.
Awards will be given at the Annual KOPANA Dinner on Sunday 3/24/24 (KSP members: please indicate whether you are applying for EuiHam Abstract Award or not at the time of submission).

4. 2024 Fall Korean Society of Pathologists (KSP) Meeting October 30th--November 1st 2024 in Seoul, Korea
KSP will be holding an international meeting and would like to encourage pathologists overseas including KOPANA members, to submit abstracts and attend the meeting. Two KOPANA members will be speaking at the KSP meeting at a 2 hour session, partnered with KSP members.
In order to encourage US trainee participation, we will allocate $750 of the EuiHam Abstract Award to a KOPANA/US trainee member who travels to KSP in person to present their accepted abstract. We will distribute more information on calls for abstracts as we get closer to the meeting. Please visit KSP for more information: https://www.pathology.or.kr/
5. Membership Dues/Seminar Registration/Donations
Annual membership dues are $50 that is tax deductible for those who reside in USA. For the 22nd KOPANA spring seminar, pre-registration is required with optional registration fee ($50). Please visit https://kopana.org/ to pay the annual membership due/registration fee and make donations. Registration fees and donations are also tax deductible for those who reside in USA. You can use Paypal or send a check payable to KOPANA to Dr. Joanne Yi at the following mailing address: Division of Anatomic Pathology, 200 First Street SW, Rochester, MN 55905.
Special Note for those in Korea: Please use “Seminar Registration” button even for donations and you can donate any amount. Due to a regulatory issue enforced by Korean government, “Donation” button will not work for PayPal transaction if you are in Korea.
6. Member News
Dr. Maria Westerhoff is a long-standing member of KOPANA, who has been involved in all types of our activities as a speaker, donor, and champion of promoting Korean pathologists in Korea and abroad. She is one of the candidates on the ballot for the USCAP Board of Directors! Please see the USCAP website for her biography (https://uscap.org/2024-board-of-directors-election-ballot/). The vote is due on 2/1/24 at 11 am PST.
